How He Asked
A couple months before Miles got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife, he sat down with my entire immediate family and asked for my hand in marriage. The week he proposed, Miles asked me to save October 28th open because he wanted to take me to dinner to celebrate our 8th month dating anniversary. Two days before he proposed, I fell ill with the flu and tried to cancel our dinner plans. Miles, however was persistent and begged me to go to dinner. I remember being so upset because I thought he was so selfish for dragging me to dinner with a fever, a cold, and all congested. Little did I know that he was about to ask me the best and easiest question of my life.
Miles had made dinner reservations in Downtown Disney at our favorite Italian restaurant. I remember being so upset and ordering the smallest thing on the menu because I wasn’t at all hungry or in the mood to be anywhere else but home in bed. After dinner, Miles took me into Disneyland and he had planned to propose in front of the castle, however the castle had been closed off due to the firework show. He was bummed and I couldn’t understand why, so I suggested we go home (so that I could sleep haha). On our way out of Downtown Disney, he offered to buy me a medicine ball from Starbucks and asked me to sit near the fountain area while he went to get it for me.
Moments later he had gotten me tea and he sat next to me. He gave me a story on how he had actually bought me a gift at the Disney Store as asked me to close my eyes. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, he was kneeling in front of me with a ring box containing the most beautiful ring I’d ever seen. I was mesmerized and in complete awe as he proceeded to declare his never-ending love for me and asked me to be his wife. I remember the tears coming from my eyes and the fireworks set off (literally) as I said, “YES!” The tears only intensified as the time passed and I came to the realization that it wasn’t a dream that this was reality. Four months later, I became Mrs. Matias and our forever began.
